Should you delay buying an annuity?

With annuity rates at the lowest for years, it can seem tempting to delay buying an annuity in the hope that returns will improve. However, this can have serious drawbacks and leave you in a worse situation over time.

For example, if you find an annuity that pays you £500 a month and delay the purchase before buying six months later, you will have missed out on £3000 worth of payments. If the rates haven’t improved sufficiently, you will not be able to make that money back, even over time.

Of course, this is just an example and each individual situation is different.
